A Note from our Charity of the Month, Girls on the Run of Central Maryland:

Dear BWN Members:

We are so grateful to be BWN's selected charity for April. In previous years, BWN members have donated Ziploc and trash bags for our Spring 5Ks. Unfortunately, we have been forced to cancel our entire Spring 2020 season. As an alternative to collecting items for our upcoming 5Ks, we encourage BWN members to take action in our local community is a way that is line with Girls on the Run's mission and values.

In our Heart & Sole curriculum for middle school girls, we teach girls about reaching out to others who are outside their "comfort zone" to create a ripple effect of positive impact in our community. For these girls, this may mean talking to someone new, thanking the lunch lady, or offering to help someone outside their friend group.

For BWN members, we are asking you to do a Community Impact at Home Project to whatever level you feel comfortable, then post something on social media with the hashtags #GOTRCenMD and #GOTRGotYourBack. Right now, there are so many people in Howard County who need our help. Visit the Columbia Community Care Facebook page for multiple ways to help those in our community. https://www.facebook.com/groups/807588256400584/

If you are leaving the house anyway for something essential, you can...

  • Volunteer to be a shopper and deliver items to homes.
  • Volunteer your time at one of the pickup sites
  • Purchase items and drop them off at a drop site

If you're not going out at all, you can:

  • Purchase items from the Amazon Wish List and have them sent to the group organizer
  • Donate money to Columbia Community Cares so volunteers can buy the most needed items.
  • Share information about this group with others
  • Share the #GOTRGotYourBack social media posts that Girls on the Run of Central Maryland is putting on Facebook and Instagram.

Thank you!
