THE SURPRISING TRUTHS ABOUT HUMAN TRAFFICKING

Speaker: Jeanne Allert from The Samaritan Woman

What would cause a woman to sell her lucrative company and use her savings to purchase and finance the renovation of a 23-acre abandoned estate in Baltimore City to establish the first residential care program for human trafficking survivors in the DC-MD-VA area? Come hear Jeanne Allert tell the story of how her life was changed forever by a victim of human trafficking, and how she has spent the last 12 years caring for survivors.

In 2007 Jeanne founded and currently directs The Samaritan Women, a national faith-based organization providing restorative care to survivors of domestic sex trafficking. In 2018 The Samaritan Women announced the formation of the Institute for Shelter Care, which serves as a research, training and equipping entity to help establish new shelter programs, stabilize and improve current programs, and facilitate qualified research to advance national standards of care and best practices. In 2018 she was awarded a Silver Stevie Award for the “Most Innovative Woman in Nonprofits.”

Full community life means supporting people to have choice and control over all aspects of their lives including where they work, live, and spend their time. Engaging and participating in community life has a positive impact on people with disabilities and their community. Arc of Howard County helps people to see that people with disabilities are valuable members of their communities.
