Our goal this year is to provide a sense of community & refuel as many spirits as possible through our Virtual Retreats, Family Bingos, Jess Beard’s Ears Over Fears and our ReTreat Yourself program. Cancer patients lived somewhat isolated lives before the pandemic and now more then ever need a sense of community and things to take their mind off cancer, even if just for a moment.

Our mission is to provide retreats of respite to cancer patients, their caregivers and family members. Due to Covid-19, we have had to pause our day retreat program and have created new programs allowing us to continue to refuel the spirits of those affected by cancer. The puzzle request is for our ReTreat Yourself program which gifts families a beautiful box filled with uplifting & therapeutic activities designed to take their minds off cancer.

The Community Action Council of Howard County (CAC) is the county’s designated anti-poverty agency. CAC serves the community through four core service areas: the Howard County Food Bank, energy and weatherization assistance, housing assistance and early childhood education through Head Start and Pre-K programming. To better change lives and end the cycle of poverty, CAC bundles these programs and delivers them through a family-centered. Meaningful family engagement opportunities and intentional development of partnerships between parents and staff promote family stability, reduce stressors and connect families to critical resources.

The mission of the Howard County Conservancy is to educate children and adults about our natural world, preserve the land and its legacy for future generations and model responsible stewardship of our environment.

Received by the Conservancy in 1993 by Ruth and Frances Brown, Mt. Pleasant is a 325-year-old farm now operated as a nature reserve and educational facility. The Gudelsky Environmental Education Center, on-site at Mt. Pleasant, is Howard County’s first nature center, opening in 2005. The Conservancy, originally founded in 1990 as a private, nonprofit land trust, today has a dual mission of preserving land in Howard County and providing educational programs.

Founded with the purpose of empowering and giving hope through our advocacy for women who head up their households alone as single mothers (and fathers).

Single mothers face daily crisis and struggles, whether it be financial or health related issues. They strive to have the strength and encouragement to rise above it all to ensure that their children receive a good education, quality childcare, food, clothing and shelter. Single mothers often let their own health go unaddressed for the sake of their children's well being. The wellness of women is an important one for JLA and we want single mothers to know, that they are not alone and we want to make their lives a little easier with feelings of hope and dignity.

Grassroots is a multi-service crisis intervention center providing 24-hour crisis intervention services, emergency and transitional shelter, and community education. Grassroots supports individuals and families experiencing a personal, situational, mental health, or shelter crisis.

These days, carrying out that mission gets complicated. Today, providing various services requires more staff, more planning, more resources and more skill than ever before. That’s why Grassroots is so grateful to all who support the work that we do.
