BWN functions on volunteer effort. Over one-third of the membership volunteers in some capacity. Participants find that committee involvement enhances their membership investment, enabling them to form closer relationships and achieve greater recognition within the group. BWN committees include: Hospitality, Marketing, Membership, Programs, Scholarship, and Special Events. A board director oversees each committee.

Karen Pitsley, Co-President

Karen PitsleySince 2001, Karen Pitsley, AIA has been creating beautiful and functional spaces for homeowners in Maryland and beyond. In 2008, she founded Transforming Architecture (TA) and implemented "Custom Designs, Flat Fees." The spaces designed by TA are known to be sensitive, beautiful, and connected to those who inhabit them. TA specializes in Aging-In-Place and Universal Design. With long-term clients such as Bello Machre (www.bellomachre.org) a non-profit agency which houses developmentally disabled adults and numerous first floor master suite addition clients, TA has the expertise to help homeowners stay in their homes longer. Karen has received the following accolades: 2015, 2013 and 2011 Top 100 Women in Maryland, 2014 Graduated from Leadership Howard County Premier Program, 2014 Top 100 MBE in Mid-Atlantic Region, 2012 Woman of Distinction by BWN and 2011 Innovator of the Year. Karen is married and lives in Highland, MD with her husband, mother and two sons.

 

Angie Johnson, Co-President
Angie Goodwin-Johnson
Angie Goodwin Johnson is an Independent Beauty Consultant with Mary Kay Cosmetics. During her eight years with Mary Kay she has mentored more than 50 independent business owners. She currently teaches skin care and color cosmetics. Additionally, she conducts image workshops for professional women and college students transitioning from the campus to the corporate world. Angie is an accomplished professional with more than 20 years experience in marketing, communications and branding.

 

 

Linda Ostovitz, Past President

Linda Ostovitz

Linda is a principal attorney in the law firm known as Offit Kurman. She brings to the firm 36 years of experience in litigation, mediation, and arbitration. She focuses her practice on family law, which includes divorce, custody, access, child support, alimony, property disposition, and pre-marital agreements. She holds a prestigious fellowship in the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers, and is on the Board of the Chamber of Commerce. She co-chairs the Business Day for Leadership Howard County, and is a member of the Columbia Patuxent Rotary Club. She is also on the planning committee for the Taste of Howard County, which benefits Gilchrist Hospice of Howard County. She was chosen as one of Maryland’s Top 100 Women in 2014. Linda recently launched HoCo in the Know where she regularly posts legal blogs and events of interest she has attended. Linda is a graduate of the University of Baltimore.

 

 
Jamie Dorsey, Secretary

Jamie has been involved with BWN for 7 years; as a 2012 Scholarship Winner she obtained her bachelor’s degree from the University of Phoenix. Jamie has been on the board for 4 years and enjoys working with the Women & Men of BWN!

Jamie is an officer with M&T Bank, spending 10 years as a retail partner and manager focusing on individual clients and small business solutions. Jamie now is a Merchant Services Specialist focusing on providing business customers and non-customers solutions for Credit Card / Merchant services processing. Jamie is responsible for developing new customers as well as servicing current customers. The best thing about her job is informing a potential client how much we can save them on their processing!

Jamie lives in Howard County with her husband and daughter. She enjoys spending her free time with family & instructing small group fitness.

Doris Walsh, Director of Membership

Doris WalshDoris is the Vice President at Gerald Walsh CPA, LLC, where she is Strategic Planning Partner with her husband, Gerry.  Managing the accounting and staffing functions, as well as day to day management of the practice, is an “encore career” for Doris--quite a departure from her previous roles, including Professional Development at the Restaurant Association of Maryland. 

Holding a Bachelor of Science from the University of Maryland in Ornamental Horticulture, she is a nature girl and loves being outdoors. Doris is a long-time member and frequent speaker for the Howard County Beekeepers Association (as well as a Bee Ambassador).
Doris has 2 grown children: a son who is a Stage Manager, and daughter who works in the developmental disabilities field.


Laura Kittleman, Director of Communications

Laura KittlemanLaura's real estate team, The Kittleman Group of Keller Williams Integrity (www.kittlemangroup.com), is a family-owned real estate business based in Howard County. Laura and her daughter and partner, Lisa Kittleman, have team of five and they attribute their success to their Clients First philosophy. The Kittleman Group is consistently one of the Top Ten Keller Williams teams in the Maryland/DC Region.  Laura's personal touch and high tech background, combined with a passion for exemplary customer service, is a proven winning combination. Her caring achieves results! 

Laura has a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from UMBC. She is a Leadership Howard County Alumni who enjoys giving back to the community she loves. Laura grew up in Allview Estates and watched Columbia being built from the time she was in middle school.  She and her husband, Tom Yeatts, have three beautiful daughters. Laura loves to run, garden, paint, travel and spend time with her family and four sweet dogs.

 

Monique Washington-Jones, Director of Marketing
Monique Washington-JonesMonique Washington-Jones is the owner and head instructor of WKD Karate for Girls; a female-only martial arts academy located in Maryland. (www.Karate4Girls.com) She is a certified karate instructor with 30 years martial arts experience. Annually, she empowers hundreds of females through karate classes, after school programs, summer camps, self-defense workshops and a mentoring program for girls in both Howard and Baltimore counties. She has been recognized both locally and nationally for inspiring females. She is often asked to speak to women and girls that want to live confidently as it is her mission to encourage females to be a better version of themselves. 

Monique has a Bachelor of Science in Communication and attended graduate school for business. She is a Leadership Howard County Alumni, enjoys volunteering and giving back to her community. Monique is originally from Richmond VA and currently resides in Columbia MD.

 

Mary Jordon, Director of Hospitality

Mary JordonMary has been the store owner of Bra-la-la for ten years. Bra-la-la was recently awarded the best of intima award last summer for best customer service in North America.

In her previous career, she was a biotech specialist for fifteen years selling to NIH, Johns Hopkins, university of Maryland and other medical institutes. She sold antibodies, enzymes,cytokines and growth factors to researchers. 

Prior to biotech sales, Mary worked at Georgetown university - Lombardi cancer center- in the Department of Pharmacology and Radiation Medicine doing breast cancer research. 

Mary resides in Ellicott City with her husband and two daughters.

  

Deveron Mathews, Director of Special Events

Deveron MatthewsBorn and raised in Michigan, Deveron graduated from the University of Michigan with a Bachelor of Science in Education. She relocated to Howard County, Maryland with her husband where she has lived for the past 37 years. During this time, Deveron raised her 3 children, ran her own daycare business, served as a legal secretary, and has worked at Centennial High School as a para educator for the last 10 years as well as running her own trust administration business. Excited to start the new chapter in her life as an accredited staging professional, Deveron brings her enthusiasm, passion and natural ability to de-clutter, organize and neutralize a home to help her clients sell their house for top dollar.

 

Nancy Buckley, Director of Scholarships

Nancy BuckleyNancy has been serving the accounting needs of clients for over twenty years. She became a partner at Hertzbach & Company, P.A. in 2016 when Coale, Pripstein & Associates joined the firm. Prior to becoming a partner at Hertzbach, Nancy has been in practice since 1995 and became a partner with Coale/Pripstein in 2008. Nancy has over 20 years of experience providing corporate and partnership income tax preparation and management advisory services to small and mid-sized businesses engaged in a diverse range of industries including construction contractors, professional service firms, and nonprofit organizations.

In addition to assisting business owners and their businesses, she works with individuals and sole proprietors in tax planning, bookkeeping and personal income tax preparation including multi-state income tax returns.

Nancy is a graduate of the University of Maryland at College Park. She is a member of both the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) and the Maryland Association of Certified Public Accountants (MACPA). In addition to assisting her clients, Nancy serves on the Archbishop Spalding High School Annual Fund Committee, which helps raise money for the students who attend ASHS. She is also a current board member of Bach in Baltimore.
